You're Going to Make Crappy Posts (and that's okay)

This has happened to all of us, I’m sure. Or, if you’re a new blogger and your posts are going well so far, maybe this hasn’t happened to you, but believe me, it’s inevitable.

You’re going to make a crappy post every once and a while.

Every once and a while, you’re going to post something that, for whatever reason, doesn’t get half as many views as your usual posts, or gets little to no comments. It’s sometimes hard to tell why; it could be because the title was boring or didn’t sound exciting enough, or the pictures weren’t as good quality as usual, or maybe you scared off all your followers by introducing a new topic or something, but it’s bound to happen. And it’s frustrating, because sometimes it might’ve been the one post you put a lot of time and effort into, just to see it flop. But guess what??? That is perfectly. okay.

Some people take the message of no one showing up to the party as “maybe I should take a break because I have no inspiration right now”, which is perfectly fine, but others may take it to the point of “maybe no one likes my blog because all my ideas right now are crap.”

I think it was Ed Sheeran (Word wants to change Sheeran to sheering I’m laughing) that first said this, but I heard it from Doddleoddle, because she’s my queen. xD There was this quote from him, ‘Writing songs and playing live is like turning on a tap in an old house; first you’ll get the mud and dirty water, but the more you get it out, the quicker the good water starts flowing.”

This is the same for blogging, or taking pictures, or drawing, or playing music, or—whatever. Whatever you do that is considered “creative”, this applies to it. People who decide to take the creative route in life often struggle with coming up with creative things with all the other creative people out there to compete with and get frustrated when people don’t like something they recently put out as much as their other things.

I mean Panic! At the Disco themselves shoved their album Pretty. Odd. in the corner because it didn’t get as much attention as all their other albums. (It was a beautiful album btw A+)

The point of all this is it’s okay to make “crappy” posts. It’s okay to end up making something that you’re not particularly proud of. It’s all part of being a ‘content creator’. If you ever decide to have a profession or even just a hobby that requires creativity, let yourself make a few not-so-great things along the way. Don’t give up because you’re in a slump or people don’t like what you’ve been putting out recently. If you want to take a break, that’s fine, but in order to keep the flow going, just keep the tap water running, washing out the dirty water, and soon hopefully you'll be able to get back into your old routine.

One comment I got from the fabulous Olivia, sums up the other part of this wonderfully.

But, as a content creator, do let yourself take breaks every once and a while. Don't completely drain every little bit of energy from yourself because you feel like you NEED to put up another blog post for your followers because you promised one the day before. There's a difference between being out of ideas when you really really wanting to post and completely draining yourself of all your energy. It's so very frustrating to not be making something, as someone who's constantly doing things, (I know because my school website had a surprise shutdown last week and even though everyone kept telling me 'LUCKY YOU DON'T HAVE SCHOOL' I couldn't help but panic because I felt like I had to be doing something. It just felt wrong not doing anything.) but you need to give yourself time every once and a while to step back from everything.

this was the video that inspired this post. it also partially inspired
 my manufactured personalities post.

one thing that I really love about these more wordy posts that I've been trying to get into is that I'm actually getting better at talking to people in real life, which means the absolute world to me. I'm not so scared anymore to talk to my teachers and other classmates and I've been able to smile at strangers more often and say thank you to the waiters and waitresses and everyone else I can't even explain to you how happy I am about this guys. I'm not scared anymore.

  1. Kelsey, dear. ❤️ This is exactly what we needed to hear from you. You are such an inspiration, and as far as I know, none of your posts have been "crappy". They've all been so thoughtful and imaginative, and to me, that's what blogging is all about. xx You're such a great representative for the teen blogging community, and I promise you that the thought of unfollowing you has not once come to my mind. ;)

    1. Oh gosh, I don't even know what to say, thank you so so much. <3 It means a whole lot to me. Haha, that's funny because I've always thought you would represent the teen blogging community very well. My writing and pictures certainly aren't as near as imaginative and breathtaking as yours. <3 But my favorite thing about the community is that we all bring something different and teach each other so much, I don't know if one SINGLE person could represent our entire group. xD
I wish I had something better to say, but for now, thank you for your kind words. ^_^

  3. *glances suspiciously at post title published promptly after my most recent post*

Nah, just kidding. I totally get you and that Ed Sheeran quote is very relatable and one of the best ways to describe how creativity works. It doesn't just flow out of us; it comes and goes.

Yay for coming out the shell! ^^ I really am so happy for you; I'm in the "scared of all humans and anything that lives outside my house in general" stage but hoping to move to a more open, happy part of my life soon.

(also yay for that new awesome header am i right ^^)

    1. Haha, I promise this has nothing to do with your posts, everything you write is wonderful. xD

Isn't it? I love that quote so much. It's 100% accurate and I'm sure is the life of every blogger on here. xD

Aww, THANK YOU!! I really hope you do, it feels wonderful being able to break out a little more. But I feel ya, it's really difficult.

haha THANKS SO MUCH its probably my favorite header I've ever had. ^_^

  4. Very amazing post, and very true. Often I am much too hard on myself, much too much of a perfectionist.
I am glad these have helped you, darling <3

    1. Ugh, being a perfectionist is a struggle. Nothing ever seems to come out right. It's even worse if you're also a big procrastinator and then panic to make everything perfect the very last minute.
Thank you, I am too ^_^

  5. Eeek, this is absolutely beautiful Kelsey! I would vote for you to become our next president, honestly. Or you could become a world leader. Just make sure you show the world your talent, ok?
And I agree, everyone has ups and downs, but if you do something different and new, it doesn't matter if people like it, it matters if YOU like it. Some people don't like American Beauty/American Psycho because it's different, but if FOB likes what they're doing then we should support it (and I love it).
Also very true about our blogs helping in everyday situations, I've changed so much (for the better) because of my blog, more than I ever thought I would.

P.S. How come i never noticed your amazing header?! I love it!

      EXACTLY. That is perfect.
Ugh, same. I'm glad you've also learned to change for the better, it feels so good. :]
      AND THANKS SO MUCH <3

  6. DODIE IS QUEEN. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS DODIE. IS. QUEEN. THANK.
But seriously, thank you Kelsey. I've started writing music and drawing and I'm at the stage where I just think there's no point because I won't be good at it, there's better people than me out there, why should I bother. This has brought me out of said stage, thank you so much :)
I'm also one of those people who have to be doing something. Yeah, most of the time I'm on the internet aimlessly scrolling but I'm also doing something (mildly) productive.
(also it's good that blogging has helped you be better at talking to people and stuff, I'm still as awkward as hell and can't speak to anyone without either saying something stupid or panicking so that's great xD)

    1. DODIE IS SO GREAT.
Aww, of course!! I hope songwriting is going well for you so far, and that you get out of your 'stuck' stage (I guess that's what its called??) soon, and that you go on to writing some fantastic music. Songwriting sounds like so much fun.
I feel ya. It still FEELS productive, though, like I'm still reading something, I'm still looking at things, even if I'm not making anything myself. xD
(Aww, YOU GOT THIS I'M SURE YOU'LL GET OUT OF IT SOON. It does feel so much better being able to approach people myself and to be able to talk though)

  9. Oh my goodness, you don't know how encouraging this post is. Sometimes, ourselves as bloggers, put such high expectations on ourselves...if we don't get more than 70 views than we are a failure.
//so thanks for the reminder :)

    1. Oh gosh, thank you so much, I'm so glad it helps you :] Seriously, all the expectations vs. the amount of views/comments/followers we actually end up getting gets to be so discouraging, and I feel like all of us need the reminder that it's all going to be fine every once and a while
